What do you do when you need to get 49 things you’ve never done before you turn 49 and the clock is running out? You go to Orlando!
Armed with my rental car and a sense of adventure, I drove down the touristy places to see what was available. One of the first things that caught my eye was Zombie Outbreak. It had me at “Zombie” I wasn’t sure if it was a theme restaurant, and adventure ride, or just a lame museum. It didn’t really matter, I knew I’d never done it before so I was all in.
It’s a live action role play where you walk through a maze with a guide and shoot zombies that come out from all the corners. Aim for the head. No need to bring your own gun, they will provide you one. In fact, I’m pretty sure they don’t want you to ever bring your own gun. Theirs shoot compressed air.
For the $24.95, plus $12.95 souvenir pic (which is the only way you’ll walk out of the place with a picture of a zombie), it’s about what you probably would expect it to be: A 20-something guide who has about as much enthusiasm reciting the lines to his script as the professor during roll call in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Add into that a mixture of animatronic zombies and a hand-full of people dressed as zombies that at some point throughout the day, I can only imagine wish they were actually getting shot to put them out of the misery of working at a place called Zombie Attack: a job which I can’t imagine most people would boast of on their resume for future employment.
If you’re a fan of zombies, I’m sure you might enjoy this more than the average joe. I guess in the realm of zombies, I’m your average Joe. Oh, and as for the picture. Yeah, I bought it. But I lost it. Enjoy my artist’s rendering…
